Theoretically, if a 22 year old has invested $60,000 in index funds, does this mean they no longer have to save for retirement? Assuming a 7% real return which has been past performance over the last century, that comes to 1.1 million in 2018 dollars when the 22 year old turns 65 without contributing another dollar. Assume half are held in Roth IRA and a regular taxable account, no 401k.
