For me, it was my car. It's good in that I don't have car expenses, so it allows me to work less and live on less money, but it makes life a little more difficult and time-consuming. I'm actually thinking of buying a car because it's so hard for me in the summer, but that would mean more work and less time to smell the roses.

It's also forced me to get out and walk more, which I hardly ever did when I didn't have a car. I've also had to learn to rely on public transportation, which is sometimes a pain.

A downside is that I can't haul large things, which has been a problem with getting my apartment furnished cheaply by buying at thrift stores and yard sales. I pretty much have to buy only at places that deliver and pay that delivery fee, or rent a van/truck for a day to use it for a few hours, then pay someone to come along and help me lift. I can't buy large sizes of things, like potting soil or fertilizer, or bulk items because I don't have a way to get it home, so I spend more money on smaller sizes that run out sooner.

It's a constant tug-of-war between economy and convenience.
