Just as a hobby to do this year, I started some seeds for indoor baby greens. Not specifically to save money, just so I'd have access to fresh greens, potentially.

I did the math of potential yield/calories per g of seeds. Now, these were just seeds from Home Depot or whatever, and I can probably get larger packets somewhere for less.

(If all my math is right) The calculations -- not including anything except the cost of seeds -- came to about $0.015-0.018/calorie. Store-bought greens cost something like $0.008-0.02/calorie.

So, my math isn't showing a money "savings" (especially when you add in the cost of some equipment). I believe the yield calculations I used included multiple harvests from one plant.

Besides growing them outside in the dirt and using rainwater to decrease overall costs, does anyone have tips on growing greens cheaper? Resources, etc.?
