I've owned my chair for about 2 months now. I spent an entire afternoon at my local Steelcase dealer and ended up leaving with the Gesture. I was actually able to buy the floor model I'd been testing out. The chair looked new and I was able to save about $300. So that was nice.

After sitting in it for a about a week I started to notice my lower butt and upper thighs were getting pretty sore by the end of the day. After another week, the soreness was constant. The soreness is hard to describe, because there is no tenderness in the muscle. There's no muscle pain when I walk, or am active. It's like a skin soreness. When I'm not sitting, I still have the sensation of pressure on my thighs. Again, it's not painful, it's just an uncomfortable sensation. It's not pins and needles, like numbness, although it feels closer to that then muscle soreness.

I inspected the seat cushion and realized that with just a bit of pressure, I could press my hands down on to the seat and feel the hard seat bottom, as well as the shape of some mechanical workings. Overall the seat felt really hard, and the foam seemed to compress too easily. I called the dealer and they told me to bring it in. They ordered me a replacement seat (free under warranty) and sent me home with another floor model to use until mine is fixed.

The floor model I have in the meantime feels only slightly better. It feels like there is a bit more resistance in the foam, but I can still pretty easily feel the bottom of the seat pan, and still make out some uneven surfaces when I press with my hands. And the odd skin sensation is still there. Overall, the seat just feels really hard.

It sounds odd, but overall I still really like this chair. It's so solid. I tested other high end chairs and nothing compares in build quality. There is zero wiggle or play in any part. The arms of every other chair felt cheap, even on chairs twice the price. The back feels great, I love the adjustability, and it looks extremely sharp.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with the Gesture? If anyone out there reading this has one, I'd love to know what it feels like when you use your hands to feel down in to the seat cushion. When I feel down the middle of my seat, I can feel the metal support rods, or something down there. It takes a bit of pressure, but it's still noticeable.

Just to note, I'm not a big guy. Six feet, 170 pounds. So I know I'm not too big for the chair.
