Hi r/DIY,I live in a 9 year old condo with laminate flooring in the main area. I’ve already removed a section of the laminate for a previous kitchen floor reno, so I’ve already got a peak at the old laminate and underlayment – the floors are concrete and perfectly flat with no imperfections. I am now looking to replace the laminate with a better quality laminate floor. A couple concerns I have:The existing flooring is 7 or 8mm tops and I’d like to install 12mm laminate. The issue is that the existing flooring fits very snugly under the baseboards but the new flooring will not. Is it OK if I install the new floor ¼ in front of the baseboard and then lay quaterround on top of that to cover the edge? Is there any issue with this? Should I be using a spacer in this situation to keep everything straight?Relating to the above, since I’m increasing the floor thickness I don’t want to contribute further to the height increase with a thicker underlayment. Is it acceptable to use the existing underlayment (which is very thin) to save on costs, time, and height? Considering it’s a relatively new condo, are there any issues with this?would appreciate any help with the above from this wonderful community. I also promise to post pictures of the installation when it is complete. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2De4v1t
