I used to go to the grocery store with no list, pick up whatever (expensive steaks or fish) and sometimes not have anything to throw together for a meal. So I've taken the step to plan a menu and meals and shop at Aldi instead of my regular grocery stores (Weis and Giant). I also wasted a lot of food. I've cut my bill in half, significantly reduced waste and saved money. Here is what I bought and made for the week for 2 people:
Chicken Breasts - $10 for 7 Ground Beef - $5 for 2 pounds Fresh Fish - $4 Canned Tuna – $1 Bread - $1.50 Rice - $1 Mushroom Soup - $1 Chicken Broth - $.50 3 cans white beans - $1.50 Pasta - $1 Egg Noodles - $1 Oatmeal - $1 Taco Shells - $2 Marinara - $2 (I know I can make my own, but I don’t have freezer space) Green Peppers – $1.50 Zucchini - $0.50 Cilantro - $1 Apples - $3 Oranges - $3 Pineapple - $2 Strawberries - $2 Blueberries - $2 Raspberries - $2 Broccoli – $1 Celery - $1 Carrots - $1 Lettuce - $1 Tomatoes - $1.50 Onions - $2 Salsa - $2 Potatoes - $1.50 Shredded Cheese $3 (I know I can shred my own cheese, but my partner will eat the cheese before I have a chance, so this is more frugal in my house) Greek Yogurt - $3.50 Heavy Cream - $2 Sour Cream - $1 Eggs - $1
Dinners Beef and Rice Stuffed Peppers (Ground Beef, Rice, Peppers, Tomato Soup, Onion) Tacos (Taco Shells, Ground Beef, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream) Chicken with Baked Potato and Broccoli White Bean Chicken Chili (Beans, Shredded Chicken, Heavy Cream, Onion, Celery, Shredded Cheese, Cilantro) Fish with Rice and Breaded Zucchini with Marinara Spaghetti with Marinara Tuna Casserole (Tuna, Noodles, Soup)
Lunch (all lunches include fruit) Left over Stuffed Peppers, Left over Tuna Casserole Chicken Sandwiches Egg Salad sandwiches Taco Salad
Breakfast – Coffee with Cream plus Yogurt with Berries Or Oatmeal with Berries or Eggs with Toast
Snacks – Sliced carrots and celery, fruit
Drinks – Coffee, Herbal Tea, Iced Tea (home made), Water (home filtered)
