I have been at the same company (a small communications agency) for about 2 years now. When I started, I was hired as a communications associate managing social media and writing press releases at $40,000/a year. Sometime last year I learned how to build websites and have since built 6 websites for clients with 4 coming up in the next few months (including a new one for the company I work for!) I am still also doing my communications associate duties.
And these aren't crappy websites. They are fully customized sites being used by local to national organizations. I am saving my company tons of money by doing this in house, yet I haven't seen a title change or pay increase. This week, my boss asked me to write an internal protocol for all web-related things company wide. That definitely doesn't sound like "associate" work to me. I have brought up a raise before and the answer seems to be "later." I love my company and the people I work worth, but I'm starting to wonder if I should look elsewhere or if I am being unreasonable.
For reference, a mentor of mine who build websites using the same exact tools I do charges $75/hr and the average for junior web developers in my area is around $60,000.
