Any tips to make a small amount of money pay for a few meals?
I'm kind of at my wit's end. The last batch of hurricanes that hit Florida did some damage to the house that we couldn't really afford to fix at that moment. Fast forward a few months later, I got a new job and with the additional income coming in, my Fiancee and I took the plunge and paid someone to repair the roof damage. It wasn't leaking yet, but there was some rot and we were worried it would just keep getting worse. Friday last week I lost my new job (laid off from the company along with roughly half the employees), and today my fiancee just lost hers. Due to unexpected medical expenses and hurricane damage, we'd been scrounging for money and had next to no savings. Both of us still have another check coming in, and we both filed for unemployment and for food stamps, but currently, we have a little less than $10 between us that has to last until those kick in. We do have gas in both vehicles, we have a few food items in the pantry, and all our bills for the current month are taken care of at the moment. We're thinking of just buying some rice and a few canned items to go with it, but we don't really know how the next week or two is gonna go.
