This question has been asked in the past, but my scenario is a bit different.A month ago, I bought a house that had new engineered hardwood installed as a floating floor. At the time we viewed the house, the floor looked fine. After living here a month, I've noticed an area where there is a substantial dip (at least 1/4", but likely more) in the subfloor, causing separation of the planks, located in an area we unfortunately did not step during viewing. It's basically in the middle of the floor (1st floor of a townhouse). I have no recourse with the contractor who installed it personally (though I do have their contact information), nor do I likely have any recourse with the seller. The house has no warranty. I'm not worried about any noises the floor makes, but I am worried about the separation and possible breaking. Today, I was able to move those boards by hand to reduce the gaps, moving the gaps towards the edge of the 1st floor. Is there any way of fixing the issue without ripping up the entire floor and starting over? I've seen others mention using roofing shingles, but I'd probably have to take out a very large portion of floor to even access the portion that is not level.I've also seen other people mention that manufacturer's specs specifically lay out that the subfloor must be level, within a given tolerance. Clearly the subloor did not meet these specifications when the contractor installed them, and I seriously doubt the seller paid the contractor to level anythingn. Is there any way of going down this path to have the issue corrected? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2pRV5oJ
