Hi AllSo I'm having a bit of an issue with a kitchen fitter. I have had a new kitchen installed and the builders have stuck the laminate edge strips on in what can only be described as a botch. The stirps have been applied with glue which has seeped out over the edges and onto the worktop itself, which I know is not right. One worktop edge strip was such a fail that they had to chisel the whole strip off, which has resulted in the strip and worktop chipping. Fortunately, I have another piece of this laminate that I am going to instruct them to replace. On the other worktop, which is in place, bolted in, and has the sink installed into it, the edge strip has been applied, but again, it is a botch. It is not flush with the edge, there is an area where I can slot a 10p coin up under it, its so bad. In this case I do not have another piece of laminate to replace this with, so this will have to be made right. The back of this particular laminate butts up against the wall. My suggestion for the builder will be to cut a 5mm - 10mm edge off of this, to reveal a clean straight edge, that a new edge strip can be applied to. Failing that, the laminate will have to be replaced, which I know will not be music to their ears. But if they cannot make the existing piece right, then they will have to get a new piece, right? They have shown they cannot be trusted to do this finishing properly, so Im going to suggest they leave the edge bare, and I myself will apply the edging strips.1 - Can laminate be cut well, if its in situ, even if it butts close to my walls? Taking it out off the wall will mess up the colourfill that has been applied between it and the adjoining laminate. Alternatively is it fairly easy to clear off already applied colourfill and reapply, if taking the laminate out of situ to cut it is a way of achieving a better cut edge?2 - Is applying edge strip an easy enough job to do as a relatively confident DIY'er.Sorry for the essay, but I've been without a kitchen for 5 weeks now, disrupted massively and haven't eaten properly for weeks. Any and all advice is extremely welcome. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2FtL9eO
