I have an Aspen Bistro auto feeder for my cats. It's awesome. Its an older version of this thing:http://ift.tt/2DKQCrK runs on three D cell batteries in series. Big sticker on the bottom says 4.5v DC 500ma (makes sense ... 3x1.5v=4.5v). Not sure why they put that there considering batteries are the only way to power it ... but whatever. Anyways, after several years of paying for batteries and more batteries last week I had enough.I purchased a 4.5v wall wall wart from Amazon that puts out 2.0A.http://ift.tt/2pv6FWu connected the positive and negative from the wallwart directly (using the supplied adapters) to the internal battery terminal cables, striped, tinned and soldered the ends together, and then heat shrinked the connections so no leads would be exposed. It's a very clean finish (well aside from the hole I cut in the side of the plastic housing to run the cable ).My understanding of electronics says this should work perfectly fine. The only downside is that a power failure will mean I have to reset the clock on it. On the upside, no more batteries ever.So my question to you /r/DIY/ is am I nuts for doing this? and am I going to burn my house down? Thanks,Idiot with a soldering iron. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2pAkxiv
