Hi all,I'm planning to install new cabinetry in a mid-century home located in western Canada, likely within the next 3-4 months (when dry here). The house was built with what I presume is a cold storage access directly into the kitchen cabinets. It was never adequately sealed.....because the home still has the original kitchen : \ I'm looking for advice on how to seal it effectively before mounting new cabinets.I want to permanently patch and seal two rectangular kitchen wall spaces, each roughly 10x10in (one can be seen here, patched with what feels like thick cardboard). My plan right now is to wait until the kitchen is being demo'd to do the patch, as I the cabinet space is still necessary. Right now I plan to: remove the old cabinet; check for access points other than the known two i'm sealing and the one on the exterior wall; and fit sheet rock into the voids. (The walls are not insulated and I don't plan to add it to only that one section). Here is where I an unsure of how to proceed, as I don't know how to fix the sheetrock firmly because there is not lathe, etc. Should I attach backing/ lathe vertically with screws from the inside and then screw the sheet rock to the lathe?Any advice you can offer is appreciated.m via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2upSR4x
