I’ve seen these boots recommended here and thought I might provide a bit of warning from experience.
Though the For Life line of boots seems great, I think it’s important to keep in mind that you’re not just buying a pair of boots, you’re buying a replacement service. And after my experience with the quality of Dr.Martens customer service, I’m not sure if I’d trust them.
Since there were no stores carrying Dr.Martens nearby, I attempted to order a pair of For Life boots online. Due to the nature of sizing and online shoe shopping and all that, they didn’t fit. So I send them back, I see they’ve been received, wait the 3-5 days they say it takes for processing and go no response or confirmation from Dr.Martens past the 5th day. So I email them asking for a confirmation, and they get back to me and process the return.
This happens again, with the same story, I return them, UPS says they delivered them, no response, email on the 6th day, return processed.
I try one more time, still no fit but that’s how it goes sometimes, I have big feet and there are no half sizes in the upper range of sizes, so sometimes you can’t find a good fit at all, oh well. I return them and then forget about it until about two weeks later, when I realize I hadn’t heard from Dr.Martens at all. I check UPS and see they’ve been delivered for 11 days. I email them and they process the return, but I’m fully convinced that if I never email them, they never process that return.
Including shipping, it took roughly a little less than a month with Dr.Martens customer service to get a pair of shoes returned. And they never contacted me, every time I had to reach out to them to get anything done. I’m sure people have had a great experience with the Dr.Martens For Life. But you’re buying a service and as far as I can tell it’s an unresponsive and slow one. Just something to think about if you’re considering these boots.
Tl;Dr: If you buy For Life boots, you’re trusting Dr.Martens customer service to replace them when they get worn out. Personal experience with Martens customer service was slow and unresponsive, something to think about when buying into their service.
