Soooooooo when I got married I had a credit score of 720. Moved in with my husband. The apartment had such bad mold in the walls it made me sick. We moved out of the nasty apartment and back in with my parents but we had to pay the apartment rent plus rent to my mom.

Then once we finished the apartment rent, I took out a loan to pay for my husband’s education because he wanted to go back to school and a credit card to cover the additional class expenses. He was on par to get hired six months after he graduated ($37k/yr) and he did and we were going to be able to pay everything back.

Then I got pregnant.

A new credit card paid for the unexpected $1000 in OBGYN appointments and baby supplies because he barely made enough to cover food/gas/car payment/cellphone/insurance/rent. I was sick all the time so I couldn’t work and we lost my full time income ($19k/yr).

Doesn’t sound like a lot of expenses but I had to go on a special diet because literally everything made me sick and we also live in an expensive city. 😑😑

Of course when my son was born, that bill was another $5000 and it was dr visits and special formula for him because everything made him sick too.

I got a job paying ~$8/hr to help run an ice cream shop.

Things went downhill with my parents so we had to move out. Rent tripled.

Once the formula ended, it was still special solid foods.

Then I went back to school. Another $16k plus a higher credit limit to cover living expenses because I had to quit my barely above minimum wage thankless job.

I couldn’t get hired after graduation.

Mental health spiraled downward and I wound up at the hospital. $3000 bill.

New therapist and psychiatrist. Extra $300 a month. Still no job.

Go back to thankless ice cream shop.

Move into different apartment. $200 more/month. No roaches though so that was nice.

Husband leaves me and moves in with his superior. Saddles me with $1200/month rent with my $800/month earnings.

Two months later I wind up in a mental institution. Three months, no job and $19,000 later, I have to move back in with my parents, who had my son while I was hospitalized.

Finally get a new job. Pays $300/week. Still owe mom rent because she’s a bitch and nickel and dimes me for everything. Haven’t paid any bills because my husband got fired and I had no job plus I was in the hospital so we literally had no money to our name.

Everything in my name has not been paid since August 2017.

My parents got to the point where they were making it completely awful for me to live there so my 2 y/o son and I moved in with a friend. We share a 1bed/1bath apartment and she only asks that I pay for my own groceries.

The tally of this massive looming debt of mine is: $6100 in credit card debt $3000 in loan liner $16,000 in student loans $36,000 in medical $500 to CPS (the power company, not child protective services)

We both make $300/week each but paying my bills has been on the back burner for him because my credit is already shot to shit in his opinion.

I spend ~$160/month on groceries for my son and I. We’re on a pretty strict gluten/dairy free diet, per both his doctor and mine. $100/month on gas $200/month for joint car insurance with my husband $160/month on joint health insurance with my husband (child gets CHIP) $140/month for joint cellphones/data - I use my phone as a mobile hotspot so I can blog and hopefully start monetizing that $100/month for website services/security/premium Wordpress plugins

Thank god we don’t have anymore car payments.

The numbers are just so astronomical to me that it feels like I will never catch up or pay anything off and this isn’t like me. I used to pay everything on time or early, more than the minimum amount etc. and this is what I’ve been reduced to and it’s shameful. I just have no clue where to start.

Help?

Ashley
