Hey guys. I hope I have posted in the right place and I really need some advice.
I bought an iPad through eGlobal Central. Having read the reviews before buying, it was generally mixed. But, there was more positive reviews than bad. I decided to go through the purchase with my Credit Card (MasterCard).
On 02/02, I collected my iPad from a DPD collection point. When I got home, I opened the package and I unpacked the iPad and the charger it came with it. I turned on the iPad and it was working fine. At this point, I did not set up the iPad, as I wanted to use the cable it came with to connect to my laptop. At this point, I noticed that the charger was very difficult to connect to the iPad itself. Initially, I thought it was an issue with the cable and I used another cable. But, I found that the problem still persisted.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there was a visible dent at the lower back of the iPad where the charging port is. It is damaged and this is the obvious reason as to why i found it so difficult to place the charging cable into the device. When i eventually do place the cable into the port, it does not charge. I further inspected the port itself and the port is dented inwards too. As soon as I noticed this, I immediately took numerous pictures of the dent and even a video. I then repackaged the charger and the iPad into its original box.
Within the hour of receiving my package, I contacted eGlobal Central. I wanted a refund and to return my iPad I received which was faulty/broken upon arrival. The only way to receive this was to submit a ticket on their website. I submitted the ticket with the images of the dent on the back of the iPad and where the charging port is, explaining the issue in further detail.
Right after I submitted the ticket, I contacted my bank (Lloyds Bank) and asked for advice. They advised me to wait a couple of days for them to reply and they can dispute this issue if they refuse my claim. Please note that I paid with my credit card so I hope there is further protection made available to me in scenarios like this. Lloyds confirmed that this is true, but the same with debit payment also applies anyways apparently.
I got an email today (07/02) saying that my claim has been rejected due to 'physical/external damage'. I received the iPad this way and the company are refusing to accept responsibility despite providing evidence of the dent on the iPad.
I read further reviews to this company in specific regards to their return policy and it is terrible. This company is notoriously known for not accepting refund requests and there have been more than a handful of cases where other customers have received faulty/broken goods from them and rejecting their refund requests too.
This morning I was up at 5am and I disputed this with my Bank, pretty much explaining everything I said above. I am very concerned because I am only a student (21 years old) and this is a very big purchase for me. The iPad was not even for me. It was for my Mother who was recently diagnosed with dementia and I bought this iPad to make things easier for her.
It is very difficult to contact eGlobal central and the only way to really contact them is through their ticketing service via their website. I cant even attempt to deliver the package to them as they will only give you a forwarding address if they have accepted your claim and they have rejected mine.
Also, it may be worth mentioning that i also paid an additional shipping fee called 'Insured Economy Express Shipping'. It further explains it as: ''Insurance covered: Damage during delivery or even lost shipment means no loss to you. You are covered by insured shipping.'' When I collected the package there was honestly no signs of damage at all. It was well bubble wrapped but it was only when i opened the seal of the iPad box i found the damage on the iPad. Can this help my dispute at all?
Please can someone advise me. I have raised this dispute with my Bank and I have replied to the ticket on eGlobal central asking how did they come to this conclusion, as they have given me a faulty/broken iPad which i had paid for.
I apologise for such a lengthy post but i really need someone to help me here. Thank you so much.
Edit- I put the flair on this discussion as 'other'. Maybe it should be credit, but im not sure. Again, thank you so much.
