Hey, has anyone here tried intentional community as a way of simple living? I have always been interested in the Amish way of life, but frankly they take things too far. I visited them once in Lancaster which was great if you don't mind horse buggies!

You get communities like Twin Oaks which looks interesting. https://www.ic.org/directory/twin-oaks-community/ Or Dancing Rabbit.

You also get big religious communities like this one:http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/life-among-the-bruderhof/

It looks attractive, since there is a fair amount of evidence that religious communities stay together better than non-religious ones. https://christlife.org/blog/learning-from-the-bruderhof-an-intentional-christian-community

Reba place looks interesting as well: https://www.rebaplacefellowship.org/

So I guess what I want to know if how effective an intentional community is at leading to a simple life? It seems that mainstream society just pushes everyone in the opposite direction of simplicity - so maybe detaching is the best bet?
