hey all, sorry if this is not the right place to ask.

when i was young, i have fond memories of an old Coleman sleeping bag, it was a heavy cotton exterior, with a very warm polyester fill, and flannel interior. The zipper was big and bulky, but the teeth weren't the best. I basically want the extreme quality of this.

The coleman bag is from the 60s, and very well might be a good contender for a BIFL item itself.

I'm interested in creating unique sleeping bag, i have found some bags that approach on what I'm aiming at, but it's looking more and more like the absolute best bang for buck will be a DIY or commission work.

I'm not sure who to request the commission from. I have no sewing/fabric work experience and no equipment. While it would be fun, perhaps later in life.

The idea is a very durable, 3-4 season, sleeping bag. So durable that it will last several generations ideally, assuming non-extreme use.

I imagine the worse it will see is being on the bare ground with some gravel, but primarily indoors, in a tent, or on the grass.

It will be generously sized "California Twin" so that it can be a quilt if needed, or fit uncle-sister billy bob.

I am still brainstorming about materials and design, but here's some of my thoughts.

40"W x 80" L

Outer layer: stonewashed 12-30oz hemp or linen canvas. I will need to get samples to tell what I want yet.

I really would prefer to have a rustic "grain sack" look and feel to this. I hate the feel of the synthetic layer on most cheap bags.

I'm thinking a canvas fabric will be tough enough to last generations, but comfortable, breathable, and temperature regulating.

Inner layer: stonewashed linen, similar weight to a nice linen bed sheet.

Pretty certain about this, simple no fuss, feels kinda like flannel, without the sweat.

Zipper: Something really heavy duty, brass? Would love to include a pure Silver ring for the zipper pull.

Again, fairly certain, but I'm not sure if a "modern zipper" would be better just because they are more durable, Really set on a large tooth metal and tough zipper.

Fill: Hemp/wool mix?

Really unsure about this. The coldest this needs to be without a blanket on top would be 40-50 fareinheit. But really want to be "snug" even in the summer, so it seems some sort of temperature regulation fabric would be the ticket. At this time I've had really no luck on finding a hemp/wool blend and I am look for suggestions for fill.

Misc: Would like some sort of pair of straps/loops on either end to hold it together when rolled/folded.

I expect this to be somewhat bulky, I'm not looking for a space saver/weight saver.

If you have any more cool/crazy ideas for this heirloom bag please please feel free.

I'm primarily looking for a direction on where to commission something like this, but thought you may like the idea anyways.
