Hi, I'm a high school senior getting ready to go to college next year and I'm in a dilemma. When I was a kid (like 8-12) I used to compete in beauty pageants. Usually the reward for winning them was savings bonds, and I had a pretty good amount of them stacked up that I had always planned on using for college. I'm not sure if they were the type of bonds that accumulate over time or what, but assuming that they weren't, they should total up to at least a couple thousand.
Now, I graduate in May and thought now would be a good time to check on those bonds. My parents are divorced, so I called my mom and told her I want them since I'm 18 now. She said my dad has them, which didn't really make sense to me because I haven't lived with him since 2010, but I thought "Well, he is more organized so maybe he wanted to keep them. Makes sense". So I then called my dad, and he seemed to genuinely have no idea what I was talking about. Now it's a back and forth between who had them. Long story short I'm pretty sure they lost them. My parents aside, is there anyway I could even ATTEMPT to get them back some other way? I do remember going to Wells Fargo after I had won them, but since I was a kid at the time I wasn't really paying attention to what was going on. Do you think the bonds are on some sort of record under my name? Would contacting the directors of the pageants maybe help at all? I'm getting really stressed out because I was planning on that money paying for my deposits and supplies.
Edit: not sure why I'm getting downvoted as this isn't my fault and I'm just asking for some help, lol. But anyway, update: my dad checked his safes and confirmed that he doesn't have them. Told mom I'm going to try to retrieve them online and she said "good idea", and seemed annoyed that my dad didn't have them? I don't even know/care whether or not they're lying at this point I just want my money lol.
