Maybe it's been posted before, or is too obvious! Tear off the non-personal or blank parts of whatever you are going to shred, recycle them, only shred the rest. Saves on shredding time, power, wear and tear, and in due course, shredder oil as it will take longer for the container to fill up which I understand is how to judge when to oil.
My old shredder died yesterday, unknown age as bought for a couple of pounds from a charity shop a couple of years ago. It was becoming temperamental, which I then read was due to not oiling it. As I had no book of rules I did not know they needed oiling! Bought a new one today and will treat it right!
