With another kiddo on the way, the wife and I are planning on moving our bedroom to a different room so the kids can share our larger one. One hiccup in the plan is that the only wall we can mount our bedroom tv on is what I'd call a thin wall, the studs are laid flat as opposed to being on their ends. The wall itself forms a closet and seems to be a last second addition when the house was built 90 years ago. We found this when we gutted and remodeled two years ago. The bedroom side is drywall and the closet side is plaster lathe. It has outlets and light switch on it so shallow work boxes must be a thing.I'm capable of doing my own electrical work but how much of a hassle is to add a shallow old work box? It would be directly above an exist outlet so running wire won't be an issue. Also, any suggestions for mounting the tv? Since the studs are laid flat, I've only got 2 inches to work with instead of 4, and any tv i've ever mounted always used 3 inch lag bolts. It's only around 50 pounds, would 2 inch lags hold well enough?Edit: meant old work instead of new work via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2nCmUAh
