Hey people! In the market for an engagement ring. The gf has the setting picked out, and doesn't care too much about a diamond in the center, and perfectly fine with an alternative. She feels the cost of the expense of the diamond is a bit ridiculous like me, and also in her opinion, thinner bands with smaller stones doesn't go well with her long fingers. She would much rather go with a less expensive alternative with a wider band.

The setting she picked out is made to order, so there is room from modifications, and most likely going to go with a 2.5 CT Moissanite center stone w/ natural diamond surrounding.

My concerns are 1) Will it look obvious with Moissanite and natural, even though we aren't going to mention the stone or pass off as a diamond to anyone, and 2) any issues dealing with any negativity or "oh..that's not a real diamond", especially from a catty relative of hers.

Also, speaking of that relative: what I'm going to be paying for the ring will cost almost as what her now husband paid for just for the setting(name brand costing 2x what it normally cost without, with a center stone diamond marketed under a Debeers brand to make the diamonds come off as specially selected, yet could be minimally an L, SI2, very good cut).

Anyway, anyone with Moissanite can give advice with my concerns will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
