I'm a 27 y/o male living in Colorado Springs, and I have searched unsuccessfully for work for eight months now.

I joined the Air Force as a programmer in 2010, learned all I could, and got out in 2014. I then went to college and earned my bachelor's in Computer Information Systems with a programming focus, picking up Java, Javascript, SQL, PHP, and a bit of knowledge in other languages, just to round myself out. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA in late June of 2017, and since my lease was running out, my wife and I moved to Colorado Springs.

But even though I often see and apply to jobs here using techniques and languages I know, I never hear anything back, or the rare times that I do hear back, it's a flat refusal. I'm working with two different job recruiting agencies, and neither has so much as gotten me an interview.

In the last few weeks, I've sought advice from job counselors through veteran help centers, and they have no idea why it's taking so long to find work. And in the last few weeks, I attended a networking event and spoke to a woman who seemed interested in reaching out to me. However, while discussing the job they were interested in offering and the potential salary and benefits, after a few messages, she vanished mid-conversation. I've waited for a reply for over a week now, but nothing seems to be forthcoming.

My wife is working to support us, but our savings are running out. I'm to the point of applying to retail positions just hoping for something to get some money to make ends meet.

What am I doing wrong?
