Do you care to show/know your net investment (excluding reinvested dividends)? In other words it would be similar to cost basis excluding reinvested dividends (even though cost basis can only exist including dividends).
For instance you may have an unrealized loss when including dividends. However with a broader look you are still positive from your initial purchase.
What value do you prefer to see/show?
P.s We are not trying to display unrealized/realized gain/loss for any tax purpose in this example.
