A friend of mine had a question on her taxes. IANA tax expert by any means, but I can read TurboTax prompts. So I connected via TeamViewer and we went through everything. When you sign into TurboTax, it takes you through the beginning steps of gathering information and selecting a plan which you don't have to pay for until the end. My friend had pretty much finished up her taxes, and I helped answer her question. Since I was already connected, I figured I'd stick around in case she had any other questions.
When she went to pay, it stated that the price was $39.99 while the $59.99 was crossed out. I thought to myself, "Self - that isn't right." So I open a new browser on my computer and navigate to the same link. Sure enough, my webpage showed $29.99 with $39.99 crossed out. We both had itemized deductions but nothing else past that. There were only two differences:
- Friend is in a different town in the state we are located in about 6 hours away.
- Friend had gone through the entire process besides payment and actually filing.
My friend went ahead and paid, but I was a little upset that she was getting swindled for a whole $10! When you pay the fee, you get access to talk to their specialists, so we requested a call and got one immediately. She added me to the call in case there was an issue. We explained the situation and the lady was very apologetic and gave my friend a free code for when she files her taxes next year. She offered zero explanation as to why there were two different prices.

This led me to believe that TurboTax knew that someone had to pay so they didn't give them a discount. I hate when companies are shady like this. It also makes me sad because I've always been a fan of TurboTax. Am I missing something?
Edit Already: Just checked on my phone and I got the more expensive option too. What gives??
