My best friend is planning to buy a new vehicle because his is dying and needs costly repairs. Originally, he'd told me about a reasonable hatchback for 10k he was going to buy, but now he's got his heart set on a 18k Subaru which apparently "holds its value". He makes a good salary around 55k, but I know he has at least 20k in student loans that he's making minimum payments on and isn't saving much for retirement. So, it's not a totally horrible financial decision, but it's one he may come to regret in the future.
I thought about getting him to reconsider, but I don't want a fight, and at the end of the day it's not my money. Would you say something or just let him learn the lesson if it doesn't work out?
