I am moving to Seattle soon and I really want to get a dog because I am going to be pretty much on my own over there. I have a budget spreadsheet with all of my perspective expenses that are adjusted for the area. I have about an extra $500+ a month leftover when it is all said and done (housing, utilities, food, entertainment, cell phone, etc. and most importantly retirement and savings). I will have like a "down payment" for initial costs like purchase and shots. Is this enough to a raise a puppy/dog properly?
Are their any personal experiences that could help me with a target amount so that i can get one? I was looking at a medium sized dog.
Edit: I am really trying to avoid being that asshole who impulsively gets a dog and then realizes later that they can't afford it so they have to leave it at shelter.
