I read a book (fiction) recently, and it brought this sub to mind. So I thought I'd share it!

It's called Elmet, by Fiona Mozley, and it is about a father and his two children living a largely isolated and self sufficient life in the Yorkshire countryside in the 21st century.

The main narrative thread is more complex than this, and the novel does not idealise the family's life. There are acts of brutality and moral ambiguity that clash with what I suppose you could describe as the "simple life". But with that, there are beautiful descriptions of the day-to-day; building a small house, preparing food, and the pleasures of the natural world.

If you are looking for something to read, you might enjoy it!
