A few weeks ago I was doing a little car shopping during my lunch break and found a suitable fit. I had about 20 minutes, so I spoke with the salesperson and gave him permission to start on financing paperwork. The plan was to meet again the following weekend and iron everything else out - but unfortunately the vehicle had been sold in the meantime. Then, yesterday I received a letter from a lender explaining why I wasn't approved for financing on a vehicle completely out of my price range (different brand, year, etc.) - one I've never seen or even mentioned to anyone. I didn't care at first, but the more I think about it, the more annoyed I am at the (albeit minor/temporary) affect this unapproved loan application has on my credit status. I'd like to know if you guys would follow up on this or if it's even legal for them to do something like this without explicit permission. Thank you for any advice!
