For one reason or another (zero guidance, negligence, disinterest, etc.) I have never filed my taxes. Even now, I am unsure of how exactly to go about doing this. I'm terrified to be fined or arrested.
Thanks to this subreddit, my main goal for 2018 is to address my finances and debts. I haven't ever made more than $50k per year, most often it is somewhere between $25-35k.
I am completely overwhelmed by these forms, deductions, laws, etc. and don't even know where to begin. I'm applying to colleges this year and know that I will need current tax info to qualify for financial aid.
Not asking for hand holding or a handout. I know my starting point (financial illiteracy) and I know my end goal (financial solvency) and hope to find resources and tools for every little step in between.
Thank you in advance.
