As the title suggests, I am currently attending college and am struggling to feed myself. Most of the working I do goes towards paying my bills and rent as well as whatever loans I have. I am a first gen college student and I managed to get scholarships and grants but I still needed to take out loans for living expenses. What I did take out covers most of my rent payments but I had to take up work in order to make sure I did not run out. I live off campus and close to the school because I do not have a vehicle so the rent prices are high.
I attempted to do the online application for benefits but as I've never done this before I'm not too sure how to navigate it. When I get to the questions about assets in my bank accounts, I'm not sure if putting my loans in there will accurately reflect my current situation. It may look like I have a large sum ready but I've already calculated my living costs for rent and it was not enough to see me through the year hence why I had to pick up work.
I apologize if this isn't the appropriate place to be asking this question, but I am struggling here as I have no support network to fall back on since I aged out of the foster care system. Getting through college is paramount to me getting out of poverty and changing my life. However, I am struggling to function with the level of nutrition I have and I am concerned about my health and the risks that could pose to my education as I have already been having heart troubles.
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
