For myself, and I'm sure many others here, making frugal choices is about preserving time and money that could be put to better uses. I consider experiences with friends and family to be in the category of "better uses" but I've been struggling lately with where to draw the line.
For example, sure I could stay in while my friends go out for a few drinks, but isn't sharing quality experiences part of the reason I save my money? Or going out to dinner with the Mrs... sure, I could cook her a nice romantic dinner at home but she'd be a lot happier if we went to her favorite restaurant!
So I guess I'm looking for a little inspiration. How do you balance frugal choices and splurging on experiences? Do you have any specific rules that keep you grounded?
