Hello guys, a quick question. I need to raise some some money to do something stupid (buy an RV as a rental to help a family member), and to do that I'm going to need to sell some stocks or bonds that I have. I am terribly attached to all of them and need your help choosing which would be good to sell.
So of these groups, which would you think would underperform over the next 12-24 months, so I should consider selling them?
a) Index funds, mostly IVV (S&P 500) but also other iShares fund groups for small cap and midcap. b) Tech funds, namely QQQ, the Nasdaq top 100, and HACAX, a growth fund that's done great, hence I'm loath to sell any of it. c) Very little Value, mostly a chunk of IVE. d) Specific company stocks that all seem worth holding on to: AAPL, FB, TGE, DIS, F, VIS, DAL, GOOG, Aflac e) Some other funds, like IEMG (emerging) or MTUM (a momentum play), IEUR (Europe) and IXUS (some international). You can tell I like to stick to iShares funds. f) A few REITS, mostly VNQ but a few others. g) Finally, my bonds, BND/AGG and LQD. The bonds have gone nowhere for years but then that's what bonds do.
So. I am torn here, needing to raise some funds but having trouble deciding what of these might do poorly over the next year, plus I'm not super happy about taking the profit . Honestly there's so much pessimism about bonds I am tempted to sell a chunk of those even though I already hold only 8% bonds/92% stocks and I'm 49 years old. I consider the RV rental as a possible bond proxy, as the income will likely be predictable. (My sister is a stable business I"ll be renting through.)
Thanks for any thoughts you can give!
