Hi all. First post here. I'm working on my basement sump pump. A few months ago a sewer line broke and spewed debris into the sump pit. This pit did not have a tight cover.Recently, the alarm that the backup pump is activating has been going off. I removed the pump and back up. Then I wet dry vac the water out of the pit. Turns out that this pit not only had debris in it from the sewer line, but it had a narrow strip of concrete with clay on either side. The pump sat on the concrete but the clay was clearly caked into the side of the main pump. The pump was totally clogged top and bottom. I rinsed it off, cleaned the impeller and tried to manually run water through it(all unplugged). It looked clean so I tried to plug it in. Immediately the circuit on the wall tripped. I cleaned it again but the circuit kept tripping. My guess is that the pump is very corroded with grit and this is tripping the circuit. Does anyone have any other ideas why it would be? Do I need a new pump? It is a watch dog model.Second, what should I do about the clay in the pit? I heard you can place a basket or something in the bottom. Thanks for your help. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2mfkZRf
