I was just ordering some yarn for my next few knitting projects (I tend to choose patterns first and then buy the yarn for them, although other people do it vice versa, which of course is totally fine), and had a moment of doubt as I was about to pay--should I really be spending this money on something that I'm just doing for fun? Isn't that a bit selfish? Not very frugal!
Then I realized that I'm literally making my own clothing as well as making gifts for other people, and paying well below retail value for the finished product. And it isn't even a question of cost vs. time invested, because I'm doing it primarily for the enjoyment of the process!
