Not for life, but that should go without saying. I know this has been asked to death but after reading through a good 15-20 threads I've found no good answers. My considerations are essentially as follows:

  • price preferably <$50 or in that range

  • earbuds; that is, out-of-ear; not in-ear

  • place where wire meets plug can survive bending seen in normal daily situations

  • sound quality comparable to the nicer cheap-as-shit disposable earbuds

  • must be wired

So far the best headphones I've had all round, even for durability, have been Apple Earpods which last 3-4 months. I commute on a bus, I walk a bit, I might lift sometimes. Fuck cardio. I also take care of my shit and keep headphones stored away from other things they can tangle with, so I'd prefer not to be accused of neglecting the things I buy. Every pair I've had failed while the cord, ran under my shirt, was connected to 3.5mm jack on the phone in my pocket, which faces up. My pants aren't tight and all the pockets on my pants are fairly large and accommodating anyway. Sound will begin to cut out as I walk, even without catching on anything recently or frequently.

I've tried the $20 Panasonic and Sony earbuds(last 2-3 weeks), as well as some more expensive Nu-Forces(1 month?). Also some random cheapos lying around and those that came with some phones, all similar scenarios, although headphones packaged with phones seem to have surprising life. I want sound quality like the $20 disposables that preferably doesn't start to cut out until a year. I rarely if ever wear headphones at home, am not nearly stupid enough to wear two headphones outside, and mostly use them for background music in a sense, so sound quality isn't really a consideration. I'm not interested in buying in bulk. I literally just want earbuds with a cable that won't fray to shit right where it connects to the plug within weeks and doesn't sound like a tin can or something. Staying in my ears is a bonus at this point. Beyond that I could really care less.

TL;DR: ~$50 budget. Budget disposable headphone sound quality, out of ear earbuds, wire that doesn't fray at point where it connects with 3.5mm plug while in pockets for 1 year or so?
