I wanted to give my kitchen a cheap overhaul, so I decided to paint the formica cabinet doors and box frames - easy enough, right?I started by washing all surfaces to be painted with dawn dish soap, then dried them and proceeded to sand down all surfaces with 120-grit sanding blocks. I was told at Home Depot to be careful not to oversand the formica, as it would erode to the pressboard underneath fairly easily.Nevertheless, I sanded everything and a lot of sanding dust went everywhere (not sure how to even attempt to quantify the amount of sanding) and then wiped off the surfaces with clean rags.I then chose a Behr ultra pure white water-based paint-and-primer-in-one acrylic paint and I rolled on two coats with about 16 hours in between. Now, 3 days later, the surface looks super solid and gorgeous but if I scratch it with my nail, both layers of paint peel off right away and I could strip long pieces of paint easily offSo my question is, what the heck can I do to remedy this situation? Is there some sort of acrylic paint sealer that exists (which I couldn't find via Google)? Should I go over it with another type of paint (maybe oil-based)?Any advice is greatly appreciated!Edit: Some sources on Google say water-based paint can take 30 - 40 days to dry/cure on formica (which is an absolutely absurd amount of time to wait without use of cabinets), but right now it seems the paint didn't "take" onto the formica. I am willing to wait the full amount of time if necessary, but I think the issue probably goes beyond that via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Fl4rzw
