My wife and I just moved from Atlanta, GA to Kyiv, Ukraine as missionaries and are in the process of pursuing a home purchase. We are a little confused on how to go about obtaining a home loan or mortgage. We know that the only requirements for purchasing a property here as an expat is to have your passport and a local tax id number (which we are in the process of obtaining). We also are in the process of obtaining temporary residency and understand that part of the visa process, though that's not an issue with property ownership.

We have great credit in the USA, and are members of a credit union in Atlanta, GA. We also have a Schwab Brokerage bank account, and can easily change that to become a Global account. We do not have any overseas banks we are a part of at the moment. We are looking for an $80,000 loan.

Any advice on where to move forward? We are able to put 10-20% down on the property in cash as well if needed. And we intend to pay this off within 3 years.

(We may have access to lawyers within our organization as well.)
