Hi all,I'm building a pretty basic built-in desk by getting a cheap countertop and mounting it to the wall using the Everbilt brackets from Home Depot similar to this, different size but same general shape and idea. The counter top is 7' x 2'. I have 16" stud spacing, and I have 4 studs I can hit. Each one of the shelf units can hold 1000 lbs, so this is definite overkill, but is more for potential sag concerns. Each bracket will be directly mounted into the studs.I've seen countertops mounted both with and without hanger boards, and sometimes with a board between the countertop and the top of the bracket. I've done some googling, but I can't seem to find any definite answers as to when you do or don't need it.Is a hanger board definitely needed, or is it just something people do when they want to put the brackets in different places from the studs? Is it needed to avoid sag? What about the board on top of the bracket between it and the countertop? I'm lacking in the woodworking tools to do an elaborate hanger board and trying to be a but cheaper, but on the other hand I want it to be safe and last a long time - I work from home and sit at the desk for 9+ hours every day. Thanks for any help you all can provide! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2m2TABn
