I recently bought a fairly large wall shelf as part of a redecorating project, and have a bit of a quandry to sort out with regard to hang the thing.I would like it to be centered in the space that it will be mounted, but the mounting spots won't line up with studs, and I'm not even certain that the spacing on the mounting holes wouldn't line up with the studs anyway. The shelf is going to need to hold a decent amount of weight (rated for 99 lbs, but plan on maybe 50 at most), as well as weighing 40 lbs on its own.The plan that I have come up with so far is to cut 2 pieces of plywood the length of the cabinet, and screw it into each stud that it crosses (3 in total). Then, screw the mounting screws for the shelf into each end of the plywood, and hang the shelf on that. The plywood should be hidden behind the cabinet, and it should be reasonably secure on the wall, or at least I hope. Here is a picture of what I am considering: http://ift.tt/2DHhVIH is a link to the shelf: http://ift.tt/2nfmluZ this seem like a decent solution? Is it likely to be strong enough to hold up the shelf? We plan to store some fairly valuable and breakable dining ware in it, and it will be mounted above my computer, so a fall would be disastrous. Whatever I end up doing it needs to be strong AF.Looking for feedback on my proposed idea, as well as alternatives.EDIT: The instructions for the shelf can be found here. The mounting instructions are on page 19. If anyone can decipher how exactly they are suggesting the shelf be mounted, please feel free to share. As far as I can tell, there is nothing about actually finding studs. Are they saying it should go right into the sheetrock? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Bw2ZHc
