Forty five mins ago my grandmas calls me in a frantic and asks if I am in the neighborhood, I said yes and she excitedly asks me to "come over and leave the car running in the drive way." Not a clue what was happening and she was not explaining herself either. At the end of the call she said do you want 2.4 million dollars and a new Mercedes Benz. I then start to think that she is being scammed and I should get over there so thats what I did.
In the back of my head I was hoping it was somehow legit like she had a real lotto ticket. She then starts to tell me that I need to drive to wells fargo and deposit 300 dollars into this account. Lets pump the breaks here Gene (thats what we call our grandma) "who the heck is telling you all this." She starts to tell me all about this guy "Mr. Green" and his number and why they need to charge 300 dollars to send 2.4 million.
I then proceed to call the number of the man that had been talking to Gene for the past hour or so and started asking questions. First off the number was from ( kingston, surrey county Jamaica) when I asked him how the weather was down there he acted as if I was crazy (maybe they re route the calls through different places ... Im not expert) He then told me that the 300 dollars would go to his lawyer Mr. Gray. I then asked what law firm he worked for? Mr. Green told me that he works for the "Bill Gray Law Firm". That the money is needed to claim the "2.4 million dollars from the selection cash rewards" not sure if there is a group at the end or what. I get a little frustrated as one can imagine when they believe their relative is getting scammed and he hangs up. I call back say sorry we must have gotten disconnected even though I knew he hung up. I wanted to hear more, I either wanted to know more about the scam process in general or to make sure it wasn't real. Anyway I left Genes house and told her it was a scam and would double check with someone when she asked who .. I told her "the internet" ha so here I am, Here is the name of the company "Selection cash rewards", (insert number with area code 876 here I cant post it bc of rules) . Thats the number of either "Mr. Green" lol I can see someone know calling themselves Mr. Green to all of their friends bc of how much money they have stolen .. It also happens to be the number of "Danny Frankel " the man who answered the second time after I got hung up on. When he answered I swear it was the same voice but said he was someone else. I also forgot this little tid bit, they told her she cant tell anyone bc they will want to come take her money. Man the more I write this out the more I feel bad for the ones that fall for it. She just called me saying that he called her back once I left asking what was going on with the deposit. She was tricked and was ready to give 300 bucks away bc these people were trying to rob her.
It would be cool to give an update and it was real, that new Benz would have made a nice trade in for a new reasonable car and paying off student loans... man now I am starting to fall for it jk. Be safe ,share with family members you think could fall for the same thing.
