I shop at meat and produce markets. Once home, I break the meat or vegetables up into ~1lb servings and place into Pyrex glass containers with silicone or plastic lids. I freeze them.
I remove the glass from the freezer, thaw, marinate, bake, and refrigerate or re-freeze... All in the same container.
For chili or ziti or any other meals that make a lot of leftover food, freeze individual portions in the glass containers. No more microwaved BPA paranoia. Frozen leftovers taste way better than refrigerated, as well. After 2 weeks, beans, rice, and pasta dishes are still excellent with just a few added drops of water.
All said and done, the investment in pyrex storage and a 6-function cook pot has saved well over $100 a month in groceries and hours of time.
The bonuses, my partner and I eat much healthier, we take out far less trash, and dishes are a breeze (which cut down on the water bill, too!).
Not to mention, a pressure cooker/microwave uses less electricity than a range or an oven when we use this method to prep before freezing or to reheat leftovers.
