I noticed the other day that I have an account for collections on my credit report from a couple of years ago. Great. I was pretty sure I had payed my bills, so I called the electricity company to find that the charge was for after I had moved. They claim I never removed my name from the account, although I swear I did, but I have no proof and the company says they have no record of it. Oh well, I guess I'll pay.
I tried contacting the collections agency for a Pay-for-delete option, no surprise that was a no go.
I went back to the utilities company, asking them if I pay, can they remove the account from the collections agency and thereby remove it from my report. The lady I was speaking to claimed it was impossible although I feel like this is relatively common.
Is there any specifically titled actions I should be requesting from the electric company for this? I wasn't sure what to call this type of action I was requesting so it was pretty easy to deny me. Maybe some type of letter I could send them? I just was really hoping to get this off my report before the 7 years was over.
Thanks for any help
