I bought a house that's in great shape but has one super-annoying problem. One of the exterior (metal) doors is missing the strike for the deadbolt. The previous owner removed it for some reason and installed an aftermarket "standard" one from the big box store the covers like 30% of the opening. It looks bad, and isn't as strong as it should be as a result.Of course, the manufacturer stopped making the door 10 years ago, and no longer has that part. I also get to be lucky enough that it's not a standard size the big boxes or specialty supply house could find. It appears to be a unique part.It should be a piece of stainless steel, 5.25" x 1.25", with a hole cut out for the deadbolt and two holes cut out for screw heads. It seems to me someone with access to 1/8" stainless plate and a water jet could produce one for me in very short order. Unfortunately the few water jet places I've found online are all interested in big jobs, and it's not worth $500 to get a strike plate. I also tried the local maker spaces, thinking about becoming a member, but the one with a water jet just went bankrupt and closed. Can anyone point me somewhere, and/or help if you have access to a water jet? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2EqGJBJ
