I find myself in a bit of a conundrum and thought I'd ask you fine folk for your input. 6 years ago I was gifted a $100k 2011 Mercedes E-550 cabriolet from my father for graduating HS. I drove that car alongside my 2004 civic coupe for 3 years until I had a falling out with my father, causing me to lose his financial support. Now supporting myself, I chose to garage the car with only 8k miles on it, rather than pay the sizable insurance costs. I looked into selling the vehicle, but would only be able to get about 40k for it. I'm very much attached to the vehicle and figure that although it was a mistake in purchasing it, I may as well keep it now as a weekend car, and purchase only frugal cars in the future.
Fast forward to just 3 months ago when my trusty civic broke down at 250k miles. Truly an amazing vehicle that served me well. Now I must decide, should I finally utilize the amazing car gathering dust, or purchase a beater for around 5k? On the one hand the insurance for this vehicle is 600 a month and runs only on premium fuel. On the other hand, the V8 engine is a BEAST. And tbh, the car is a real eye turner.
What would the denizens of this community recommend ? The frugal and YOLO sides of me are at war.
