After 14 years of marriage, I am finally taking my spouse on a honeymoon. It will be an 11 day Mediterranean cruise from Rome to Barcelona. I have already got an insanely good deal on both the cruise and air fare but we plan to spend an additional week or so after the cruise in Spain/France.
I know for many, the idea of a European vacation isn't exactly frugal but can we please move on to any tips you might have to minimize the expenses?
Details:
- Arrive in Barcelona the 3rd week in November 2018
- Flight back to the states from Paris 8 days later
- Desire to experience as much as possible for as little as possible
Advice:
- Specific ways to save money on transportation (trains are cheap isn't as helpful as Use website X to get a deal on company Y - you can pay for a sleeper car and travel at night as to avoid paying for lodging)
- Ways to save money on food (normally we get a VRBO and buy groceries and cook ourselves but that won't be an option as we want to explore a lot rather than stay in 1 place making day trips)
- Ways to save money on events/experiences (I'm not opposed to going to free museums but I am also not opposed to spending some money on an even better experience given this is not an ordinary vacation)
- Anything you can think of that I should be asking
