For the last few years I have helped out with a local charity by helping collect donations outside a local supermarket on Christmas Eve. I have noticed that when I pop in for a few bits before the store closes at 4pm much of the fresh and chilled produce is heavily discounted as it won't keep over Christmas day when the store is closed. This includes turkeys reduced to a few pounds (£'s not lbs!) and all the Christmas dinner trimmings reduced to pence in some cases.
I know it is a gamble but my wife and I have decided to chance it this year and shop an hour before closing to see how many bargains we can get for Christmas day and then stock up the freezer with any other things we will need over the next few weeks.
The only exception to this will be pigs in blankets which are already in the freezer. They are the best bit of Christmas dinner and there are some things I will not forego!
If you can chance it and don't mind the risk of having a pot noodle for Christmas dinner it is well worth a roll of the dice.
