Going into 2017 my credit score was bottomed out due to an absolute series of bad luck and missteps. I was horrified and struggling to make ends meet. Stuck in a rotation of payday loans to meet payments and was the only one in my household working due to health issues. I felt like there was no way up or out. I was drowning without lifelines. I was able to keep a roof over our heads, heat, water, and food. Things slowly started balancing out around June. I stopped the payday loan cycle and was finally getting caught up on important bills. My credit score went from 310 to 400. Then in August I got a high interest personal loan to try to help increase my credit. Not a huge loan. Just a small one. Life happened and misfortune struck again and I needed a vehicle by the end of Sept. The one I was driving needed a whole new front end and so when registration and insurance ran out I parked it for safety. Come mid Sept. I go to the car dealership, hat in hand and explain my situation. I tell them what I could afford and how poor my credit is. Bonus points my wife just started working again so we have extra coming in. The dealership was AMAZING. Not only did they help us, they got us into a new vehicle that we could afford with full warranty and free oil changes for 2yrs. The finance department worked on a plan to help rebuild my credit. Today I checked my credit score and I am at 545! Now that is not ideal and many would not be excited over such a score. For myself I am excited. It shows all my hard work is paying off. It shows that no matter how bad you think things are, it can turn around. I am going into 2018 with a goal to keep increasing my score and get into a comfortable place. I am planning on applying for a credit card in January on advice from the finance departments plan. I know what the interest rates will be right now and I will probably only get a minimum limit. So for everyone struggling like I was there is hope.
