Hey guys, so yesterday I went to go buy something with my Wells Fargo debit card, and it was declined. I then tried using my other Wells Fargo debit card, and it was declined again. I then called Wells Fargo, and they told me the cards were declined due to insufficient funds. I told them this was impossible, because I had just been paid today. They then asked to confirm some activity, and read me a transfer for $1700, leaving less than $1 in the account. I told them I did not perform this transfer, and they transferred me to fraud. The fraud guy told me he had been seeing other customers with this problem, and was due to a T-Mobile (my phone carrier) breach. The hackers got in, ported my phone number to an sbcmobile phone, and used that and whatever other information they had on me to reset the account name and password with a security code texted to my phone number, which now went to a phone they set up with sbcmobile. Once they were in, they transferred all of my money away with something called Zelle that Wells Fargo uses. The guy from Wells Fargo changed all of my account numbers for me, and locked out my online account until I got my phone number ported back to my phone and I could go in to a Wells Fargo and have them unlock and fix the online account. However, he told me it could take up to 10 days to get my money back, and I am leaving for Las Vegas today. I also contacted T-Mobile to get the number back, and went up the chain until they gave me a free month of service. I also contacted citibank, where I have credit cards, to tell them to put a fraud alert on any activity that does not come from the areas I live in and Las Vegas. Also, after porting my phone number back, I got a text from sbcmobile letting my know my account balance is $136 (I have never even set foot in a sbcmobile store). I also checked my credit report from equifax last night and didn't see anything amiss.

My question is: what do I do? I have less than $1 to my name right now, I'm leaving on vacation and have to pay for everything with credit cards. What do I do if Wells Fargo tries to refuse to refund the transfer or some other legal horse hockey? Should I switch banks and cell phone carriers? Do I need to contact sbcmobile? What measures can I take to prevent something like this happening again?
