Hello, I’m 20 (21 in Jan) and from the US. I’ve recently moved out of my parents house and in with my boyfriend of almost 6 years. I attempted to find work at one point however I was and am too sick to work. Me and my bf are just barely “treading water” financially and any little thing could put us under. As I’ve never been able to work I don’t qualify for disability, so I’m applying for social security.

I tried doing some research on what I can expect my check to be so I can start to plan, however I can’t find any info relevant to me as it is all about 65+ people or disability benefits.

Does anyone have any tips about the application process (my dad is helping with it as well, given that if I could manage the paperwork for this I would be able to work a job) or at least an estimated amount so I can adjust the budget?

I have no idea what info is important so feel free to ask. For what it’s worth our car is from ‘87 and it needs replaced. Additionally we have hospital bills and ~$150 in medication a month after insurance. I did some mental math on pre insurance cost, it would be well over $1000, so if I lose my insurance I would be completely f***ed and I want to plan for that as well as I only have a little while left on my insurance. About half of my issues are chronic and the lowest my meds will ever be is ~$200 a month pre insurance. I’m really hoping to be able to work by the end of 2018 but I’ve only been getting worse since I was 17 and as soon as one thing is fixed something else goes wrong.
