Citi has a unique solution to curb spending and combat fraud. It's algorithms are so freaking awesome and intelligent that it denies legitimate charges.

Taking a client out to dinner? Denied - After all, the client should pay - they are bigger.

Buying an Apple computer? Denied - after all, Windows computers are cheaper.

Placing Facebook ads? Denied - why are you running a start-up that needs advertising? Search for organic growth.

Placing Reddit ads? Denied - Reddit, really? Don't make me laugh.

Renting at Hertz? Denied - take Uber/Lyft.

Take Uber/Lyft? Denied - save money by having a friend or relative drive you around.

Shop online at Amazon? Denied. Don't do the immediate one-click-prime thing; save money that way.

Fly Emirates? Denied. Try domestic carriers, first. "Make America Great Again."

SFO Long-term parking? Denied. Are you nuts to pay $25 per day when parking can be had for 1/2 as much nearby.

Each of these experiences (and more) has been frustrating when it occurs each month. But then a Zen calm comes over me when I realize that Citi, like Hal (of 2001: Space Odyssey fame), is actually divining true intent behind my spending and concluding that better alternatives exist. That's priceless.

Which leads me to this question: What would happen if you bought a raincoat with the Citi card - Deny? Or Accept?

(yes...this is snark but the denials are true and did happen. yep - we have Costco to thank for this.)
